Following received from Tony Fox (tony.fox at tinyworld.co.uk) via email on 3 December 2001

"Dear Eileen,

Lovely to hear from you; I hope you had a pleasant trip.

I've been looking through my records and have found the baptism of Sarah Kellaway at Cerne Abbas on 6th June, 1824, the daughter of Joseph and Rebecca Kellaway. I knew Sarah's birthplace from the census. Joseph was a dairyman. In addition two more children were baptised at Cerne Abbas -Ann in 1828 and Jane in 1831.

According to my records Joseph Kellaway was baptised at Litton Cheney on 12th June, 1791, the son of William and Rose (nee Tudgey) Kellaway.

Rebecca Honeybun was baptised 16th February 1794 at West Stafford, the daughter of William and Susannah (nee Durden) Honeybun who married at Stratton 2nd May, 1791. Rebecca was buried at Melcombe Horsey on 17th July, 1855. On the 1851 Census Joseph and Rebecca were living at Melcombe Horsey. Joseph and Rebecca married at Long Bredy on 29th January 1816. I do not have a burial date for Joseph Kellaway.

We seem to be related on the House side of the family too. Eliza Jane House, who married John Kellaway was sister of my George House who married Sarah Kellaway. Both Eliza Jane and George being children ofCharles and Jane (nee Moores) House, who married on 31st August, 1807.

The marriage of Sarah Kellaway and George House took place at St. Leonard's Church, Shoreditch. After a time in Wellingborough, where their daughter Eliza Jane was born, they returned to Dorset. At one time they kept the Pub in Hilton and later The Antelope at Hazelbury Bryan. George died in at Hazelbury in 1879 but is buried in Hilton Churchyard.

For the record, I live at Milborne St. Andrew about 4 miles from Hilton in the heart of Dorset. Having said that I seem to spend less time at the County Record Office - 8 miles away - than people who come from the States or Australia.

I will dig through my papers to see what else I can find. Although I have a computer just about all of my research is recorded in notebooks, on slips of paper etc and takes an eternity to locate. One day I will transfer all of it to disc, one day.............!

With my very best wishes,

Tony.

".

Information from Theresa Turnbull:

"She was also telling me some bits about Jane Kellaway, she was a very strict Chapel goer, well it seems that whilst bringing up her children and her niece (my grandmother) she was quite vociferous in her criticisms of the Church of England and when my grandmother mentioned that when the Vicar came

to the school, all the girls had to curtsy, Jane was very cross and forbade my Gran to do so. When the Vicar turned up everyone curtsied except Gran, the Vicar was not pleased at all and there were steps taken to expel her from the school. Whether she was or not I do not know but from then on Gran had to attend Chapel and not Church, I think at one stage she went to both as she apparently began to sing in the Church choir..".

Information from Russell in Canada, 15th July 2008. Russell is the son of David Bayne Secord who was one of Clara's older brothers. Russell Secord lives in Dauphin.

Arthur and Clara lived on a farm south of Dauphin. They eloped to marry and did so without her parents' consent, hence the reason for Clara's age showing as 20 on the Marriage Certificate, she could not have married younger without parental consent.

They had one daughter, Joan, Arthur and Clara were divorced, Clara went to work in Richley, Saskatchewan. Arthur died in the early 1940s.

Joan married (1) ??? and had three children, she then divorced and married a George Mercer, as far as is known they live in Victoria.

Russell is going to try and find some more information. He has a cousin Betty, aged 90, who lives in Winnipeg, he is sure she will be able to help as she keeps in touch with all the family. Russell is sure he will be able to find out where she is living.

Arthur made a visit to England arriving on 14th December 1919 at Liverpool. He had departed from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on board the Metagama of the Canadian Pacific Line, his official number was 136791. His age is shown as 33, at some time Arthur obviously decided to "amend" his age as his birth certificate shows he was born on 8th August 1881. Information from U.K. incoming passenger lists.

Arthur departed from London on 11th February 1920 on the Melita of the Canadian Pacific Railway Atlantic bound for St.Johns, N.F., Canada, his occupation shown as farmer. Information from passenger lists leaving the U.K.

At some time, and it is not known when, "Arthur" decided to transpose his first names, and appears to be always referred to as "Arthur S".

Hants.

Dear Eileen,

I was bewildered to receive your letter especiallly via 'Ministry of Defence'. I had to think it was to do with my son John, who is in the R.A.F. So sorry to hear from you under what I have always considered very sad circumstances - realise how you must & always felt, it is always the children who seem to suffer, & I feel very sorry for you. My brother George Mitchell did not tell me much about the break down of his marriage, in most cases there is fault on both sides. My husband & I have talked about you, & wondered where you lived etc. We came to Sutton & stayed with you for 1 week, when you were 3 yrs old, so that is a long time ago.

I will not disclose anything either way as you wish, for your Mother to know of your investigations. I think she might have been more frank with you, so as you wish I will furnish you with what you ask of me.

To start with your Father as you know 'George Mitchell,' & as you say he was married before, & I don't know why that marriage went wrong. He was one of a family of five, his eldest brother is dead (Harold) I am the next 'Dorothy Olive' 'William Jasper' next lives in Somerset. Reg died 6 yrs ago, so that leaves 2 of us. Your fathers death I gather was very pathetic, & was burried at Morton nr Sutton. His father William, & his mother were born at Mappowder Nr Sturminster Newton Dorset, & burried there, as you say, his mothers name was Kellaway, & all the family were connected with farming. So I think that this is about all I can tell you you have made some progress at last. Perhaps sometime you will be travelling this way, you might I think of calling on me & I shall be very pleased to meet you. My name is 'Dorothy', but every one has always called me (Ciss) So will now close Fondest love Auntie Dorothy.
