Of the Long Crendon tree

John Shrimpton who fathered nearly all the known Long Crendon Shrimpton descendants and 99% of all the needlemaking ones was as far as is known an only child so it all hinged on him.

He was the son of John baptised 6th March 1683- buried 28th August 1762 who married Katerin Fryer 31st October 1717. She was buried 23rd August 1762 as Catherine. John had five/four known siblings. William 1685 -either 1740 or 1759 who may or may not have married Sarah Moss (there is no recorded marriage for this but her father's will evidences it) or the marriage was to Sarah by his cousin also called William. Elizabeth 1688- whose burial is difficult to place because of the number of Elizabeths but was either 1724/1728 or 1734. Thomas baptised 11th July 1697 and either the same Thomas or a second Thomas baptised later in the same year 15th February 1697 (the year then starting on Lady Day in March not January). There is no burial for either Thomas in the parish records.

They were the children of John (slight confusion in the parish register between a baptism or a burial 10th October 1651 but even if this is a burial entry the evidence for John's parentage is given in his father's will) buried 24th January 1730 who married Elizabeth Edmonds (same possible burials as the last Elizabeth I gave) whom he married on 17th December 1682.

John was one of seven or eight children depending on whether there was an earlier John buried in 1651. The entry looks to me like a burial but has been read as a baptism in the IGI. The civil war is obviously impacting on the fullness of the register and some of these siblings baptisms do not exist which could also include the John who lived. The evidence for further children is given from the father's will.

Alice 1648-1703

Richard 1650-1729 who married Joane Heibourn ?-1738 in 1702 and who other known Shrimptons descend. He was the more significant brother consistently appearing in the court rolls like his father before him as a juror.

Posssibly another John buried in 1651

The order then goes purely on guess work.

Probably John who married Elizabeth Edmonds.

William ?-1714 who married Elizabeth (see burial dates of previous Elizabeths) though no marriage found for him. As a younger brother he died a poor man.

Thomas ?-? who as an even younger brother is likely to have had to leave the village as there was no livelihood for him.

Elizabeth ?-? who married Thomas Colliar in 1692

Robert 1665-? who was not mentioned in father's will and for which there was no burial in the registers but like Thomas probably left the village.

That leaves only two more generations with a possibility of a connection with earlier Shrimptons in the village which will probably remain unproven because of the loss of the neighbouring village of Shabbington's registers for this period as the family moved between villages.
